What characterizes a Web2.0 application?
Here's my list of prerequisites:
1. User Interface Enhancements
- The use of AJAX or a similar pattern to increase responsiveness and user interaction;
- Clean and intuitive user interfaces;
- Allowing the users to easily interact with web content. As opposed to the traditional static web.
2. Information Management
- The use of folksonomy or tagging to catalog information;
3. Application Interoperability
- Mashups;
- Public APIs;
- Syndication (RSS);
4. Social Awareness
- Allowing users to interact with each other.
technorati tags: web2.0, webdev, ajax, requirements, ui, mashups, social

We’ve just implemented a few of those things at Rogue Connect. Over the past fortnight we implemented folksonomy tagging to allow people to tag their fashion blog entries and eachother.
On the page that actually contains the tags, we’ve implemented the ‘display the tags’ functionality using Ajax. Partly because we wanted to experiment with Ajax, and partly because it has some very cool uses.
Glad to see w’ere getting towards Web 2.0 slowly
IMHO, what’s lacking in your type of services (Social Networks) is point 3…
There’s Hi5, Orkut, and many other’s. What they all don’t have is interoperability.
It would be nice to be able to interact with users registered in another network. This would, of course, imply standards for data interchange.
If I value a particular provider’s specificities, I register in their website and I automattically have access to the other adherent social networks…
That would be Web2.0 in It’s best…
That’s an interesting way of looking at it Paul. We’re currently investigating the Mashups and RSS. We’re likely to have the RSS first, and it’ll feature in our fashion blog. The mashup concept we’re toying with is still underwraps – it won’t be anything hugely unique but certainly bring about a lot of extra functionality and interaction for our members.
Can we get past spamming about your effing fashion site/blog, ya twit
